IMMERSIVE PROGRAM OF KICHWA AMAZONIAN HEALING & MIDWIFERY

For those interested in learning about midwifery and ancestral medicine, we offer an immersive experience designed to share and revalue this traditional knowledge while allowing us to provide free healthcare to women from nearby communities.

Thanks to this initiative, we dignify the practice of midwifery and benefit many women by offering respectful care for their bodies and Mother Jungle.

Duration: 4 weeks

Capacity: Maximum of 4 students per program

Frequency: A new program starts every month

If you are unable to commit to 4 weeks but still wish to participate in this experience, please email us at pipkaamupakin@gmail.com to check availability for a one- or two-week program.

THE PROGRAM

For one month, you will be part of a group of up to 4 women and become part of our community to accompany the midwife mamas. You will learn through their daily work at the ancestral hospital. We will organize shifts to attend patients and visit nearby communities to offer prenatal and postpartum care, baby repositioning, and invite pregnant women to visit AMUPAKIN. Additionally, you will participate in a weekly workshop where the mamas will share their ancestral knowledge and take part in traditional ceremonies to understand the essence of the Kichwa cosmovision regarding health and healing.

SUBSIDIZED BIRTH PROGRAM

Your enrollment fee will provide funding for prenatal care for women in nearby communities. Our goal is to offer birth services to those who cannot afford maternal care.

WHO CAN APPLY?

Women aged 18 and older who are interested in traditional midwifery or have prior training in the field. No prior experience or education in midwifery is required.

“La primera vez que llegué a AMUPAKIN, no me anticipé la marca que dejaría en mí. The first time I arrived at AMUPAKIN, I had no idea how much it would impact me. Being a witness and part of a network of women who understand the delicate balance between the body and the earth, who fight to keep the memory and wisdom of their ancestors alive, is a unique opportunity. I am grateful to the PIPKA program for facilitating such a beautiful experience. I have been forever changed by AMUPAKIN, and I am excited to continue developing my relationship with them.

Getting to know and participate in AMUPAKIN has been pure nourishment for my personal and professional journey. Meeting the mamas and their community, hearing their stories as women and as an association, has been deeply inspiring. It has helped me not only to immerse myself in midwifery and maternal care but also to experience practices filled with ancestral wisdom and history, with a strong political, communal and human essence. The mamas are an example of resilience. Living with them for a month was an honor, allowing me to experience the deep roots they so carefully preserve. Spaces like these are a treasure, and this program is crafted with such coherence, awareness, and responsibility that it serves as a true gateway into this knowledge.
